A learning collaborative share and learn with an understanding of the fundamental importance of Native and Indigenous voices and perspectives in public health conversations

A team of public health professionals from Hawaiʻi and Alaska first connected in July 2024 to discuss the work they are involved with related to the greater inclusion of culturally relevant physical activity and nutrition into applied public health.
Resources were shared before and during this meeting and the team brainstormed future ways to collaborate, engage, and learn on this topic to support, amply, and fund work in this area in partnership with Indigenous communities and cultural experts. The team decided to start an informal learning collaborative to provide a space for continued conversation and learning.
The initial three topic areas that the learning collaborative is aiming to focus on include best practices, wisdom, and innovation for culturally relevant physical activity & nutrition in
- public health surveillance
- traditional practices in public health programming
- funding opportunities for applied public health
The learning collaborative will continue to meet quarterly. It is open to all who wish to share and learn with an understanding of the fundamental importance of Native and Indigenous voices and perspectives in these conversations.
This group will meet quarterly. The Inclusion of Culturally and Regionally Relevant Physical Activity & Nutrition in Applied Public Health Learning Collaborative is open to all.
